About

Born in the Bronx. Built to last.

NewGen Signs & Graphics has been on 3rd Avenue since 2015. One building, one crew, and every part of the job done under the same roof.

Since 2015

One shop, one address, the whole job.

NewGen started in 2015 doing vinyl lettering, banners and window graphics for businesses around Mott Haven. The work was small and the storefronts were close, which is how a sign shop learns a borough: which walls are solid, which landlords want drawings before they want a price, and which corner gets read from a moving lane of traffic.

As customers asked for bigger work — awnings, then illuminated letters, then whole fleets — the shop added the machines and the people to do it in the building instead of sending it out. Today the same address handles design, fabrication and installation, and the sign that leaves the door was built by the crew that measured the wall.

The address has not changed. The phone number has not changed. The person who quoted your job can walk ten feet and watch it being built, which is the practical difference between a sign shop and a sign broker.

In-house, literally

What in-house actually means.

No third-party fabricator sits between you and the sign. These are the machines on the floor at 2450 3rd Avenue and what each one does to your job.

  • 01

    CNC router

Cuts aluminum composite, acrylic and PVC into backs, faces, templates and shaped panels. A router gives a clean edge on a curved logo and repeatable parts when a sign has twenty letters that all have to match.

  • 02

    Channel letter bender

Bends aluminum coil into the returns, the sides of each letter. The return depth is what makes a channel letter read as a solid object instead of a flat cutout, and it is formed at the machine, by hand, letter by letter.

  • 03

    Wide-format printer

Runs banners, vehicle wrap film, window graphics and rigid panels in UV-stable ink. Anything that curves gets printed on cast vinyl, because a calendared film will lift off a van door within a season.

  • 04

    Vinyl plotter

Cuts cast vinyl for windows, doors, walls and vehicles, then weeds and tapes it for installation. Small lettering, addresses, hours and decals are cut here rather than printed, which keeps the edges crisp at reading distance.

  • 05

    Welding

Steel and aluminum welding for frames, awning skeletons, monument signs and mounting brackets. A sign is only as good as the frame it hangs on, especially on a building that moves in the wind.

The bench where LED modules and drivers are wired and burned in for 24 hours is in the same room. Nothing gets shipped to another shop for assembly and shipped back.

The crew

Who you actually deal with.

The crew is small enough that the person who quotes the job can watch it being built. No names here — these are the roles, and the points where you meet them.

Designer

Draws the sign on your building, sets the type, redraws a logo as vector art and prepares the file the shop builds from. If a proof needs to change, this is the person who changes it.

You meet them at design, and again at any later proof.

Fabricators

Cut, bend, weld, print and assemble. They sign off on the 24-hour burn-in before a lit sign leaves the bench, and they are the ones who catch a bad face or a dead module before it reaches your wall.

You meet them on a shop visit, and in the photos we send before install.

Installers

Measure, drill, rig, wire and clean. They handle the site, coordinate with the electrician and walk you through the finished sign, including how to switch it and what the warranty covers.

You meet them on install day, at the walkthrough.

The same people handle the quote, the build and the install, so you are not repeating the address to a new person every week.

The neighborhood

Mott Haven, Port Morris, and the blocks between.

The shop sits in the South Bronx, between Mott Haven and Port Morris, in the 10454 zip code. Most of our work is within a few miles: laundromats, pharmacies, moving companies, body shops, restaurants and the fleets that serve them.

That proximity is practical. We can measure a storefront in the morning, come back with a sample, and be on the sidewalk again when the sign is ready. When something fails, we are a short drive away instead of a call center in another state.

The crew works in English and Spanish. Many of the businesses around us are run by people who live in the neighborhood, and the conversation about a sign goes better in the language the owner thinks in.

We also work across the Bronx, the five boroughs, New Jersey and lower Fairfield County. The address stays the same; the truck leaves earlier.

Questions

Getting to know the shop.

Visits, insurance and service area. If your question is not here, call the shop.

Can I visit the shop?

Yes, by appointment. The shop floor is the showroom: you can watch letters being assembled, handle material samples and look at finished work. Call (718) 484-7372 or email info@newgensigns.com and we will find a time when someone can walk you through.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We are licensed and insured, and we file sign permits under the shop. A certificate of insurance can be sent to your landlord or property manager before work starts, which is usually the first thing a managing agent asks for.

Do you only work in the Bronx?

No. The Bronx is home and most jobs are within a few miles of the shop, but we install across the five boroughs, northern New Jersey and lower Fairfield County in Connecticut. Fabrication happens in the Bronx either way, and the same crew does the install.
