Awnings
Commercial Awnings in the Bronx, NYC
A well-made awning does three jobs at once: it shades the storefront, it gives the business a second signage surface, and it makes a plain facade look finished. We fabricate, install, repair and repaint commercial awnings across the Bronx and NYC.

Awnings are the most overlooked signage surface on most Bronx blocks. A storefront with a plain 12-foot awning is handing back a lit, high-visibility sign panel that is already mounted over the sidewalk.
We fabricate the frame, sew the cover and install the unit, so the valance lettering is designed with the awning, not added as an afterthought. That is why the lettering lines up with the window below and the sign above instead of floating in its own space.
On existing awnings, the most common call we get is a torn valance or a frame that has started to sag after a winter. Both are usually repairable, and we will tell you honestly when the frame is past saving.
Our process
Four steps from photo to installed.
- 01
Discover
We look at the building, the setback, the lighting and the budget. If a sign needs a permit, we tell you before you pay for artwork — not after.
- 02
Design
You see the sign on your own building, in daylight and at night, before anything is cut. Two rounds of revisions are included.
- 03
Fabricate
Letters, faces, frames and vinyl are produced in our Bronx shop. Every circuit is tested for 24 hours before it leaves the building.
- 04
Install
Our own crew handles permits, electrical coordination, rigging and cleanup. We do not subcontract the install and we do not leave exposed wiring.
Questions
Awnings: what people ask
Straight answers with real numbers. If your question is not here, call the shop.
How much does a commercial awning cost in NYC?
Width, projection, frame type and lettering drive the quote. A retractable unit carries more hardware than a fixed awning of the same width. Repairs and repainting are quoted per unit and are usually a fraction of replacement; the quote is free, and you get a firm number after we measure the frontage.
Do I need a permit for an awning in the Bronx?
Awnings that project over the public sidewalk require a DOB permit, and some locations also need a revocable consent from the city. Interior or recessed awnings generally do not. We check your address and file what is required.
Can you repair an awning instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. Torn fabric at a seam, a bent arm on a retractable unit, faded lettering or a rusted frame section can usually be repaired. We inspect the frame first — if the structure is compromised, repairing the fabric is throwing money at it.
How long does an awning last?
A solution-dyed acrylic cover lasts 8 to 12 years in New York sun and weather. A welded, powder-coated steel frame lasts 20 years or more. Retractable hardware typically needs service every 3 to 5 years.
Do you repaint awnings?
Yes. We can repaint a sound metal frame and refurbish the valance, which is far less expensive than a new unit when the structure is still good. For fabric, we recommend replacement rather than painting — paint on acrylic canvas cracks and stiffens.
