Commercial awning fabrication and install
A fixed navy canvas awning over a Bronx pharmacy storefront, built on a welded frame with a sewn valance. The cross on the end panel was designed with the awning rather than added afterward, so the shade structure also works as the storefront sign.

The brief
The storefront faced west and took direct afternoon sun, which made the window display hot and hard to see into. The brick facade was uneven, the sidewalk was narrow, and the awning had to project far enough to shade the glass without dropping below head height at the curb. The pharmacy cross had to be visible from both directions on the block, which meant treating the end panel as a sign surface instead of a hem.
What we built
We fabricated a welded steel frame with a projection deep enough to shade the glass and powder coated it to match the fabric, then sewed a solution-dyed acrylic cover with a straight valance. The cross was cut from white marine-grade fabric and sewn into the end panel and the valance so it would not lift or fade the way applied vinyl does on a sewn edge. Anchor points were laid out to hit brick rather than the window lintel, and the install was scheduled for an early morning so the store opened on time.
How it landed
The awning cuts the direct afternoon sun on the window display and gives the storefront a finished top edge the bare brick did not have. The sewn cross reads from both ends of the block, and the valance line sits level with the neighboring storefronts. Fabrication and install finished inside the two to four week awning window, with the frame inspected and every anchor sealed before the crew left.
